Glow & Go / Your First Tan
Your first spray tan
If you have never had a spray tan, or never used a booth, this page tells you exactly what happens from the moment you book to the moment you rinse. There is nothing to memorise. The booth talks you through every step out loud.
Let us guess
No. In fact, preventing that is exactly what our spray tan is designed to do.
Orange tones usually come from formulas with the wrong undertones sitting on the skin. Our professional tanning solution is carefully formulated to create a natural, believable glow that complements your skin tone. That is why it is ideal for first time clients and anyone looking for a flawless, streak free finish.
If you have very fair skin, do not worry, you do not need a different tan, just the right depth. Every spray tan is tailored to suit your skin tone, so whether you are after a subtle sun kissed glow or a deeper bronze, your result will always look natural.
Streaks come from uneven application, which is precisely the thing a machine does not do. The booth sprays the same pass every time, at the same distance, on every client. Your part is standing where it tells you, and it tells you clearly. If a tan ever comes out wrong, message us and we will put it right.
No. There is no counting Mississippi or trying to guess when to turn. The machine guides you through every step, telling you exactly where to place your feet and when to turn, so there is no guesswork.
You will have complete privacy throughout your appointment. If you would like a little reassurance before you begin, a member of staff may be on hand to talk you through the process, or you can call for assistance at any time. We are always happy to help.
What happens
The whole spray process takes under ten minutes. Most of that is you getting undressed and dressed again.
Before you come
Preparation is the single biggest difference between a good tan and a great one, and all of it happens before you arrive.
Ideally both the day before your spray tan rather than on the same day. Shaving can temporarily open the pores, which may cause the tan to develop unevenly in some areas.
Exfoliate your entire body, paying extra attention to dry areas such as your ankles, knees, elbows and wrists. Removing dead skin helps create a smoother, more even canvas for your tan.
Our top tip: wash with Femfresh before your appointment. Its pH balanced formula helps create a cleaner, more balanced base for your spray tan, allowing the colour to develop more evenly and beautifully.
No moisturiser, no make up, no deodorant, no perfume and no oils. Any of these sit between the solution and your skin and leave a gap in the colour. Shower and come as you are.
Nails, waxing, massage and facials all go before the tan, not after. Anything that scrubs, waxes or oils your skin will lift the colour straight back off.
Which one
There are four solutions. For a first tan, the honest answer is that one of these three is right for almost everybody.
A rich cocoa bronze base that enhances your natural skin tone while neutralising unwanted orange tones, which is exactly why we put first timers in it. Begins to develop from around four hours and reaches its deepest at 24.
Clear, with no instant bronzer, so there is nothing to transfer onto clothes or bed sheets while it develops. If your worry is walking out visibly tanned before you are ready, this removes it entirely. Develops from around four hours.
A classic warm bronze for anyone who already takes colour in the sun and knows they want more than a hint of it. Develops from around four hours.
Ultra Bronze is our deepest and it is worth having one tan behind you before you choose it. It lives in Bangor, and it is the one for formals and events.
Afterwards
A spray tan holds for five to seven days. What you do in the first 24 hours decides which end of that you land on.
Keep dry. No swimming, no gym, no sweating and no long baths. Sleep in it if your solution calls for it, in something loose you do not mind marking. Rinse in lukewarm water with no soap until the water runs clear, then pat dry rather than rub.
Moisturise, morning and night. Dry skin sheds, and colour goes with it. This is the whole trick, and it is why two people with the same tan get very different results from it.
Long hot baths, chlorine, exfoliating scrubs, oil based products and shaving. None are forbidden, they just shorten it. If you have an event, plan the tan two days before rather than the night before.
First time
A single session is £22, so the first time offer gives you two for close to the price of one. Two is deliberate. The first tells you which depth you want, the second is the one you get right.
Bringing someone with you? Two tans for £35 between you.
Still wondering
The instant bronzer can transfer onto fabric before you rinse, which is why we say loose and dark. It washes out of almost everything. If that worries you at all, choose Bare Glow, which has no instant bronzer in it, so there is nothing to transfer in the first place.
Yes, at the right time. All four solutions begin to develop from around four hours, and all four reach their deepest at 24. The longer you leave it, the deeper the colour goes. Rinse in lukewarm water with no soap or shower gel until the water runs clear, then pat yourself dry.
Yes. Pale skin does not need a different kind of tan, it needs a lighter depth of the same one. Start on Golden Hour at a lighter setting. You can always go deeper on your second tan, which is exactly why the first time offer is two.
One day before you fly. That gives the colour time to settle and any instant bronzer time to rinse away, so you are not sitting on a plane worrying about transfer. Travel in loose clothing, and avoid anything tight at the waistband or under a bra strap, because pressure and heat on a fresh tan are what cause marks. Bear in mind it keeps deepening after that first rinse, so you will land looking better than you did leaving the house.
Not until you have rinsed. Sweat lifts developing colour and leaves marks where your clothing sits. Train before your tan rather than after, and leave a full 24 hours before anything heavy.
Yes, and for the deeper solutions you are meant to. Wear something loose and dark, use older sheets if you have them, and rinse in the morning.
Two days before is the sweet spot. The colour has fully settled, any transfer is long gone, and you are past the point of worrying about it. The night before works, but it leaves you no room if you want it deeper.
Message us and we will sort it. We will talk you through how to remove what you have, then get you back in for another one. Nine times out of ten nothing has gone wrong at all, it just needs a bit more guidance on the right shade and the right depth for your skin, which is exactly the sort of thing that is hard to guess on a first go. We would far rather spend that time with you than have you decide spray tanning is not for you. It is the reason the first time offer is two tans and not one.
There is no age limit, but anyone under sixteen must be accompanied by an adult. If you are booking for a formal, message us and we will talk you through it.
